The ASIMO North American Educational Tour returned to Florida in June and marked the second visit to the Sunshine State for ASIMO, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot. ASIMO demonstrated its remarkable capabilities in Tampa at MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) and provided the first chance for the general public in Florida to get a first-hand glimpse of this amazing robot. ASIMO had previously visited Orlando in March 2003 for a special demonstration at the annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge academic competition.
More than 5,300 people from the Tampa Bay area visited MOSI to see ASIMO from June 26 through June 29. During the first two days of ASIMO’s visit, more than 1,800 kids from summer camps, youth clubs and local schools attended special ASIMO performances where they learned about robotics and watched ASIMO in action!
By the weekend, news of ASIMO’s visit to MOSI had spread, and visitors arrived at the museum hours before the demonstrations to secure their places to see ASIMO in person. The stand-by line for those without tickets wrapped around the corner and into the museum lobby. Children eagerly sat on the floor in front of the stage and more seats were added to ensure that everyone, including the entire stand-by line, was able to say “hello” to ASIMO.
Don't miss your chance to see ASIMO in person. Please check the tour schedule to see when ASIMO might be visiting a city near you!
