Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway is a tree-lined thoroughfare where kids and adults alike take leisurely walks and see some of the city’s world-renowned museums. And from September 18-21 the Parkway was filled with local students and families visiting The Franklin Institute to see ASIMO.
On September 18-19 almost 1,000 students from the Philadelphia area ascended the steps and walked through the doors of The Franklin Institute to see a performance by the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, ASIMO. Even Hurricane Isabel couldn’t keep these students from coming to see ASIMO.
Then on Saturday, September 20, Philadelphia-area college students enjoyed food and entertainment outdoors on the Parkway and ASIMO performances indoors at The Franklin Institute as part of College Day on the Parkway and the 2003 Philadelphia College Festival. Over 1,000 people attended ASIMO demonstrations on College Day. Huge crowds formed in front of the demonstration hall entrance an hour before each show started. Younger kids crowded together on the floor in front of the stage, whispering to each other about ASIMO and reading the ASIMO brochure as they anxiously awaited ASIMO’s appearance on stage. On Sunday, people continued to flock to the museum to see ASIMO. By the end of the weekend over 2,800 people had witnessed ASIMO’s amazing capabilities and had seen a glimpse of the future!
