On September 23, 2004 the ASIMO Technology Circuit kicked off a nationwide tour of top engineering and computer science universities at Georgia Tech with a special demonstration of ASIMO for Atlanta-area high school and middle school students, Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff, and members of the media. During the three-day event hosted by the College of Computing and the GVU (Graphics Visualization Usability) Center, ASIMO performed for more than 3,642 people and publicly unveiled its new artificial intelligence capabilities.
During ASIMO’s first two days at Georgia Tech – one of the nation’s top-ranked engineering universities - more than 1,712 local middle school and high school students headed to campus to get an up-close look at ASIMO and its advanced technologies. Students applauded as ASIMO displayed its advanced balancing abilities and chuckled as ASIMO imitated John Travolta’s disco dance moves, highlighting the robot’s human-like agility and smooth motion. Following ASIMO’s performance, students attended a special presentation hosted by the GVU Center and College of Computing that highlighted the university’s own robotics research and programs.
ASIMO’s next stop on the ASIMO Technology Circuit will be at Southern Methodist University and will mark ASIMO’s first visit to the Lone Star State. Don’t miss your chance to see ASIMO in person in Dallas, Texas, November 11-13, 2004!
