ASIMO with Show Host
Eindhoven, the Netherlands, June 27, 2013 – ASIMO traveled to Eindhoven this week to attend the 2013 RoboCup World Championships. This year’s event will be the 17th anniversary of the RoboCup robot symposium and competition.
Since 1997 the RoboCup events have been tremendously successful in bringing together students, teachers and researchers from across the globe with the common goal of advancing science and technology in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Over 2,500 participants from all over the world will compete in various categories, spanning a wide variety of robotic applications.
ASIMO has been invited to the proceedings to support RoboCup Junior, which helps to introduce the competition to primary and secondary school pupils, giving them a chance to take part in international exchange programs and share their experiences with peers from other countries.
Each year 40 countries organize local competitions as part of the RoboCup Junior event, and the winners are then invited to the global RoboCup Junior symposium. This event consists of four different leagues: Junior Soccer, Junior Dance, Co-Space and Junior Rescue.
From Thursday, June 27th until Sunday, June 30th, ASIMO will be there alongside these winners - the next generation of scientists and engineers - encouraging them to continue their interest in the fascinating world of robotics.
ASIMO will perform sixteen shows over the weekend, showing some of its advanced capabilities such as running, recognizing people, kicking a ball and dancing.
